Thakali/Tomato Chutney

I got this receipe from my cousin K's cookbook which  she wrote when she went for a cooking class before she got married. In that way she used to try all the receipes again at home and we all used to have good time tasting all of them .
 
 

Ingredients:
  • Tomato - 3- 4 large  chopped
  • Onion - 1 medium chopped
  • garlic - 1 clove crushed
  • urad dal- 2 tsp
  • mustard seeds - 1tsp
  • green chilly - 1 slit lengthwise
  • uluva/ fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  • chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
  • tamarind- a small goosberry sized ball
  • curry leaves - 4 leaves
  • dried red chiily - 2
  • salt to taste
  • oil - 4 tsp
Direction:
  • Heat oil in a small pan and add urad dal, when they change color add uluva,green cilly, garlic and onion . Fry till onions become translucent.
  • Add chopped tomatoes ,turmeric powder, chilly powder,tamarind and salt to taste .Stir well and cook till the tomatoes become mushy. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Grind everything in a blender / mixie.
  • Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds, dried red chilly and curry leaves . Add the grinded paste and mix well
  • Serve with Dosa or Idly
