Godambu puttu/ Wheat steam cake

Malayalees have a special carving for puttu.Puttu ,steamed rice cake  is usually served with  Kadala curry ( black chick peas or kala channa).But when its puttu for breakfast the dinning table will be filled with bananas, ghee and sugar, cherupayar puzhukku (green gram curry) etc etc. In the South of  Kerala puttu is usually served with egg roast, egg curry or any non- veg curries. The Muslims and christain families in Kerala have different varities  of puttu like erachi puttu etc etc.


                                              


Ingredients
Wheat flour -3cups
salt -to taste
Warm Water-  1cup
Grated carrot/grated  coconut - 1/2 cup

Directions:
1. Add salt to taste to the wheat flour and mix well.
2.Add water 3tsp at a time and mix well  till the  flour become moist/ wet.
3. If you get lot of lumps just run the mixture in a blender. 
4.To check the moistness of the puttu mix , just  press the flour and see if  they hold together. 
5. The  puttu is made in special moulds called"puttu kutti" .
6. Put a tbspn of grated carrot/coconut as the first layer and thensecond layer is 6tbspn of puttu podi.Repeat the process till the  puttu maker is full. Always start and end with grated coconut or grated carrot.
7. Make sure that the mould is not tightly packed.Cover the mould with lid.Also fill the puttukodam (pot ) with water.
8.Cook on medium flame for 7-10 minutes .Serve warm with banana or curry of your choice.
